THE STORY
In 2262, humanity is at war. After almost two centuries of spacefaring and colonization, humankind had achieved permanent presence in a dozen star systems, and colonized six habitable planets.
Back in 2190, a contact had been made with an alien lifeform, soon to be named as “the Colossals”. They were gigantic, interstellar, intelligent and hostile to all other life.
It soon became clear that humankind stood no chance against the Colossals. They were slow in their advance, but there was little humankind could do to stop them.
The colonies fell one after another, and by the start of 2260s there was only the Earth left. There weren't many options left, and a desperate plan was chosen as a last attempt to turn the tide of the war.
All effort was focused on the creation of one portal. The technology had been there for a while, but it required a moon-sized superstructure to be functional. This portal led to a dwarf galaxy called Pegasus.
The plan was to expand to this distant galaxy, in the hope of finding something to change the situation back home, be it a new technology or a new weapon.
And if no such a miracle would be found, at least it would take the Colossals a hundred years more to reach the Pegasus galaxy, making it a temporary refuge.
Three main fleets were sent to the Pegasus galaxy: The Zeus Link fleet by the European Union, named after the portal itself, the 1st Expeditionary Fleet from the United States, and Al-Musta’mara fleet from the Daras Combine.
There was no time for careful reconnaissance or preparations; the Colossals were only fifteen years away from the Earth. The first units entered the portal on Sunday 25th of August 2262, with fifteen years of time to find a way to save the Earth.
